Ode to Lacey Wilde

Mom and Dad put Lacey, our dog of 15 years, to sleep today. Dad called early this morning and left a message. I was ok at first, but after talking to my crying mother, hearing that my dad teared up when they put her down, and simply processing that she is gone, I was kinda a wreck. I was on the edge of crying all day and luckily didn't have rehearsal at all, so I worked out, had lunch with Mr. Colson (my tpt teacher from Brookings... so much fun catching up!), watched way too much Lost, and went to "Up" in 3D... where I could cry and no one could see. I've had one massive migraine all day from my built up tears... I just NEED to have a good cry and let it all out... but I hate crying around people.. especially people I don't know well.

I've decided to recount some fun Lacey memories:

-I remember riding in the car home from picking her up... she was a tiny white puff ball.

-I wanted to name her Jazzy... I was outvoted.

-She was a princess.

-She KNEW I was the youngest.... and I couldn't get her to do a single thing I wanted her to... even when I bribed her with a treat... she was VERY stubborn.

-When dad was gone for a long time, she would sniff his clothes and wag her tail.

-She would bond with my father by licking his feet.... sick.. I know.

-She was wary Trevor Fortin for some reason.

-She would greet us very quickly when we came home from college.. but would make a big elaborate show of running back and forth through the kitchen when dad came home from work.

-She knew a line up of tricks: sit, shake, speak, dance pretty, lie down, die, give me kiss, and wait. (kudos to Kristin for teaching her).

-She LOVED being dragged on her belly while bitting her knot toy.

-Dad attempted to give her hair cuts.. but always made her look ridiculous. Parts were too short, others were left bushy, and always uneven.

-Cuddling at night was her favorite.

-She and dad would bond everytime he sat down to read, take a nap, or watch tv.
-I swear she only went potty to get a treat.. no one's bladder is THAT small.

-By the end.. she was living off of treats, not her food... which is why she went to the bathroom all the time.

-Kristin's bird, Silver was a better guard pet then Lacey.

-She did not like Kristin's cats or Jeff's dogs.

-It was never a good idea to take her chew toy. (which is prolly why she didn't trust Trevor).

-The basement was her domain.

-She is proof that my dad can get emotional.

-Our home won't be the same without her.
